Used Car Financing vs New: Which Option Is Right for You

When you're ready to drive home in a vehicle that fits your lifestyle, choosing between financing a new or used car involves more than just picking a model. Car financing options vary based on vehicle age, available incentives, and your personal financial goals. We're here to help you understand your options so you can make a confident decision. Benefits of Financing a New Chevrolet New vehicles come with the lowest available interest rates because lenders view them as lower risk. Chevrolet also offers seasonal incentives like 0% APR financing or cash back deals to qualified buyers. These programs can help offset the higher purchase price and reduce your total borrowing costs. New vehicles also come with comprehensive warranties that cover repairs and unexpected costs for the first few years of ownership. At Cable Dahmer Chevrolet of Kansas City, we offer our exclusive 5-Year Unlimited Mile Powertrain Warranty on all new Chevrolet purchases. This additional peace of mind appeals to many drivers who plan to keep their vehicle for several years. Shop New Chevrolet Inventory Advantages of Financing a Used Vehicle When you finance a used vehicle, you're typically working with a lower loan amount compared to a new vehicle. This can mean lower monthly payments, which can make a vehicle more affordable right away. The steepest vehicle depreciation typically happens within the first year of a new vehicle purchase, meaning used cars generally hold their value more steadily than a brand new one. Insurance premiums vary by make and model and driver history, but it can be useful to compare quotes on new and used vehicles before making your decision. While used car interest rates may be higher than new rates, the smaller loan principal often makes them an accessible option for budget-conscious shoppers. Finding the Right Fit for Your Needs Your choice should reflect how long you plan to keep the vehicle and which features matter most to you. If you prioritize the latest safety technology and want long-term warranty coverage, a new Chevrolet is likely your best fit. If you want to minimize upfront costs and avoid the initial depreciation, a used vehicle may offer better overall value.
