The United States has long had a love of power, performance, and fast cars. One brand that has consistently excelled at pushing the limits of what a car can do is Chevrolet. With roots dating back to the 1940s, by the 1960s, Chevy was leading the muscle car world. In the modern era, that legacy is continued, with the 2023 Chevy COPO Camaro. At Cable Dahmer, we are proud to share are knowledge of this powerful muscle car.

What is the COPO Camaro?

The Chevy COPO Camaro is a high-performance muscle car that dates back to 1969. At the time, General Motors had limited the size of the Camaro engine to 400 cubic inches. Despite this, some creative Chevy dealerships devised ways to get more powerful vehicles from the factory.

By using Central Office Production Orders, dealers like Yenko Chevrolet and Fred Gibb Chevrolet were able to order Camaros that were much more powerful than you would typically see. These were known as the COPO 9561 program and the COPO 9560 program.

201 units were built for the Yenko order, and 69 Camaros meant for racing were produced. After that initial run, Chevy did not produce any more COPO Camaro models. That was, until 2011. For the 2012 model year, GM reintroduced the COPO Camaro, giving racing enthusiasts access to a track-only vehicle once more.

How Much Horsepower Does the 2023 Chevy COPO Camaro Engine Make?

When properly equipped, the new COPO Camaro makes 1,004 horsepower. Not every model will make that level of power, but those with the 632 cubic-inch 10.4-liter V8 engine will. In terms of torque, this V8 generates 876 pound-feet of torque. This means that from the factory, the new COPO Camaro beats out rivals from Ford and Dodge. And that is why we are excited to offer it for sale at our store.
